It's Not Enough to Just Change Your Mind

Sister Hazel's 2000 hit "Change Your Mind" reached No. 59 on the Billboard Hot 100. Here’s the hook:

If you wanna be somebody else / If you're tired of fighting battles with yourself / If you wanna be somebody else / Change your mind, change your mind

Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Just change your mind, change your life’s direction, and you can be or do anything you want.

As much as I like the Sister Hazel song, the process to change needs just a bit more effort.

Baby Steps Lead to Big Changes

Merely setting your mind on the idea of changing might not result in the transformation you’re hoping to achieve.

Consider this more proven way:

  1. Answer Your WHY - Why do you want to change?

For example, instead of thinking, “I need to lose weight,” think, “I want to be healthier so I can enjoy more activities in my life.”

  • Naming the WHY will give you a greater desire to follow through.

  1. Start Small:  Making small changes will allow you to keep your commitment and build momentum.

Keeping with our “healthier” theme - start with small changes in your eating habits and add an evening walk in your community or a park twice a week.

  • Small changes are more manageable.  They are little commitments you make to yourself, and these little commitments will lead to big momentum.

  1. Ride the Momentum: Letting the small changes become good habits will build the foundation for progress.

Your small changes have you feeling better, your eating is a bit cleaner, and you look forward to your walks. This is momentum.

This is when you add another small step.  Maybe you add another day of walking, or make another change to your eating plan.  You want to build on your progress.

  • Remember, small steps lead to big results.

You can do all this on your own, but an accountability partner can help you stay on task.  This is where a DREAM4 coach can help you reach your personal and/or professional goals.

We have helped many discover their WHY and helped them work through their process to achieve significant goals.

Is it time for you to change?
