What Do You Need?

In our last post, we asked, “Are you pursuing what matters to you?” and showed specific ways you can identify what that might be, including how discovering your unique strengths can bring clarity to your goals.

The Next Step: Plan

Now let’s assume you’ve spent some time exploring what you really want and you’ve picked a goal to pursue.

But now it’s as if you’re staring up at a mountain peak. You might be asking, “Where do I start?”

Pursuing personal goals is not unlike a journey to climb a mountain. You don’t just take off sprinting up the mountain.

Journeys require intention, planning, and resources

Resources: What Do I Need?

Before embarking, you need to ask yourself: what and who will I need along this journey?

The “what” of your resources could be:

Physical objects:

  • a planner
  • running shoes
  • budgeting software

Information:

  • the time commitment involved
  • financial investment required
  • or any other cost of the new goal

But it’s the “who” of your resources that is the most significant.

We are not designed to operate alone.

Up to 95% of our life’s success or failure is determined by who you habitually associate yourself with (according to Harvard social psychologist Dr. David McClelland).

Who Will Support You?

Do you need a coach, a counselor, your family, your friends, a mentor, etc?

If we want to climb the mountain, we need our resources. Pack for the journey and don’t go it alone.

If you’re unsure where to start, your DREAM4 Coach would love to help you get ready to make the decision and take the first step.
